The Process:
The Links | 2025

I found myself chasing the magical moment of evening light raking across this fairway, inspired by the light catching the great oak on the left and stretching long shadows over the grass. At this hour, the familiar course feels different - quieter, almost held in stillness.
The Links reflects that shift, when golden hour turns a well‑known place into one that feels calm, safe, and quietly sacred.

Detailed sketch of composition. This is followed by a stain of burnt sienna all over the canvas, and then an initial block-in of the fairway.

Continue laying in the shadows on the fairway. Initial layers on background to establish planes. Lay in dark and mid-tones in foreground to build darkest values.

Block in foreground tree and background hills. Build depth and lay in the sky.

Lay in initial sky layer, focusing on contrast. Continue building foreground shapes + adding details. Add right-side trees to frame the scene.

Enhance color richness of foreground greens. Add left-side oak leaves, build details in background of buildings and vegetation. Finalize foliage and add final highlights. The painting is complete!
